About us

OUR VISION (Intent)

Our programme has children’s best interests at its heart.

Working as a partnership, South Farnham SCITT and our partner schools strive to develop best practice so that children across the region experience teaching of the highest quality. Central to this purpose is outstanding research-based training and development opportunities for all.

At South Farnham SCITT we believe the very best place to develop highly effective teaching is in the classroom, supported by expert practitioners. The programme's central curriculum is highly ambitious, carefully sequenced and both research and evidence-based, ensuring theoretical and pedagogical understandings are securely developed. In turn, school-based training is structured to build upon the central curriculum.

Mentors are key to trainee success. Our mentor development programme ensures mentoring and coaching supports trainees in line with their curriculum path.

We pride ourselves upon an individual and highly personalised training programme, developing and mastering skills in line with individual progress and need. This ensures all our trainees succeed and enter their ECT years ready to thrive and with a thirst to continually grow and develop.

IMPLEMENTATION

In order to inspire and develop highly effective, resilient and reflective primary and secondary teachers our curriculum is carefully designed to nurture the essential knowledge, skills and understandings as firm foundations to develop fulfilling and successful careers. Our programme is underpinned by four key principles:

Shared Values and Genuine Partnership

We believe that trainees will learn best through a carefully planned and sequenced central curriculum that seamlessly connects with school-based training. Schools work in partnership with South Farnham SCITT to deliver excellent and structured training within their school that builds upon centre-based provision, enabling trainees to master key skills and concepts before moving on.

Evidence and Research-Based Practice

Our curriculum content is grounded in current research. It develops trainees' ability to reflect on these in relation to their own practice. This supports trainees to explore and construct their own personal philosophies underpinned by a good understanding of evidence and research alongside their own experiences in the classroom.

Excellent Mentoring

South Farnham SCITT and its partnership schools recognise the important role of the school-based mentor in securing successful outcomes for trainee teachers. Our mentors are extremely important; we provide them with excellent resources and development sessions as well as access to professional mentor resources and mentoring support. This ensures that mentors are extremely well-equipped to support trainees' continual development of skills, understandings and practice in line with the central curriculum (and ITT Core Content Framework).

Well-Being and Resilience

For trainees to become highly successful and resilient teachers, it is essential that their mental health and well-being are supported. South Farnham SCITT supports this through weekly meetings with school-based mentors, weekly contact and ongoing support from their dedicated Cohort Lead, our Mental Health first-aider, half-termly meetings from their Support Tutor and a regular well-being survey.
