Stephen Daniell - Year Lead & Assistant Head

Having trained through the SSF SCITT course in 2017, I progressed into subject leadership before completing a course in Middle Leadership, in preparation for the next step in my career. Driven by my passion for teacher development, I deepened my understanding of the impact I could make by completing the NPQLTD course. This helped me to understand how to support the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum that positively impacts children, starting within my own classroom but now encompassing the wider school.

Throughout my training on the SSF SCITT programme, I worked closely with school leaders, gaining early insights into the challenges and rewards of management. This experience, alongside the incredible support I received, motivated me to become the best teacher I could be. The training plan for trainee teachers was very well-structured and it supported my gradual progression of skills and confidence. It also ensured multiple opportunities to engage in meaningful discussions with subject, middle and senior leaders, which helped further my understanding of leadership and gave me the confidence to plan my future career early on.

Now, as an assistant headteacher, I continue to develop in my role as part of the senior leadership team. In addition to my leadership responsibilities within the school, I continue on my journey to support the professional development of teachers and trainees; I serve as a support tutor for SSF SCITT trainees, a mentor for Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and facilitate training as part of the SFET Early Career Framework (ECF) programme.

These opportunities have been built on the strong foundation of knowledge and skills I developed during my training year, where I gained a deep understanding of effective teaching practices, basic leadership principles and classroom management. The experiences and insights I gained during that time, have continued to guide my professional growth and have shaped the leader I am today.
