Reece Fitzgerald - Deputy Head

I completed my training through the SCITT programme in 2018/19. Since then, I have taken on several middle leadership positions, including subject and year group leadership, and have recently taken up the post of Deputy Headteacher at The Raleigh School in West Horsley.

South Farnham SCITT offered the perfect start to my career by enabling me to immerse myself fully in school life from day one. Being a part of a school from the start of the year until the end provided me with such an insight to the full academic year, equipping me with the skills to hit the ground running with my own class during my first year as a qualified teacher.

The balance of professional studies sessions and days in school enabled me to put theory into practice immediately, all in the supportive environment of my host school.

A highlight of my time on the SCITT was my second school placement where I taught a contrasting year group within a school that was completely different to my host school. I still think back to this placement now and draw upon the skills and strategies I developed whilst there.

Deputy Head

Since training through the SCITT, I have continued to see the programme evolve and develop through mentoring current trainees on the programme and facilitating professional studies sessions for music and computing. As an alumnus of the programme, I felt incredible proud to be a part of the SCITT’s latest Ofsted inspection and to give something back to the programme that kickstarted my career.

To anyone who is considering training to become a teacher, I would thoroughly recommend South Farnham SCITT.
